As well as a fab interview with top crochet designer Ruth Maddock, we've got her Summer Cuffs crochet pattern for you, written especially for crochet week!
We adore the lacy look of these little wristwarmers - is it just us, or do they have a hint of vintage Madonna or Lady Gaga about them? So chic! Read on to find out how they're made...
Summer Cuffs (make two)
One size: length 15cm x width (all round) 19cm.
25g Patons 100% Cotton DK (from a 100g ball)
3.5mm crochet hook
Wool sewing needle
ch – chain
tr – treble
sp – space
ss – slip stitch
rep – repeat
Make a length of 37 ch.
1st row: 1 tr into 5th ch from hook, 1 ch, 1 tr back into same ch, * miss 2 ch, (1 tr, 1 ch, 1tr) all into next ch, rep from * to last 2 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 tr in last ch. (11 ch spaces)
2nd row: 2ch (counts as 1st tr), * (1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr) all into next 1 ch sp, rep from * to end, work 1 tr into last tr. (This is 2nd of 2 ch at beg of previous row)
Repeat the 2nd row eleven more times. (13 rows have been worked in all.) Fasten off leaving a long end to sew.
Fold in half so that side edges come together, oversew 1st two rows down from last row, leave a gap of five rows, then sew remaining six rows. Sew in all ends.
With right side facing, rejoin yarn to seam at cast off edge. Join to seam with ss.
1st round: * 7 tr in next 1 ch sp, ss in next 1 ch sp, rep from * to end, placing last ss in 1st ss. (6 shells)
2nd round: * (ss into next tr, 3 ch) x 6, ss to last tr of shell, then ss to next ss, rep from * to end, ss into 1st ss.
Fasten off and sew in all ends.
