Reach for your hooks! Today we're launching our first ever Crochet-along. We're calling on crochet lovers all around the world to join in the fun and whip up a free crochet pattern together. Share a photo of your finished crochet with the rest of the Crochet-along crowd and you could win some fab prizes too!
As well as sharing your crochet with the rest of us, we're also arranging the Big Crochet Flower Swap! If you crochet a flower and send it in to our Crochet-along HQ we'll grow one big joint crochet garden. Afterwards we'll send you back someone else's flower - so you'll get a pretty package in the post! Read on to find out how to get involved...
Download the free crochet patterns over on Anchor's website.
Ready, set, crochet! Crochet a flower or a series of flowers and beads to make a necklace or bracelet. If you need a hand, take a look at our how to crochet-along a flower tips.
Take a picture - of your finished crochet (ideally with you wearing it!)
Share your photo with others in the Crochet-along, in one of these ways:
Write a blog post: about it and post the link below in the comments - remember to link to us in your post!
Tweet your pic to - @themakingspot @coatscraftsUK #crochet-along
Share it on the wall of our Crochet Along event on Facebook
Email it to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Add it to Flickr and post in our Crochet-along Flickr group!
You can keep track of everyone's photos in our Pinterest board - and we'll keep you updated in the Crochet-along section of our blog too!
To get started, download the patterns for this crochet necklace and bracelets - crochet the lot or just pick a bloom or bead or two!
To tempt you to join in, we've got two great prizes up for grabs! We'll pick two photos at random and send them a yarn-loving treat! The first winner will take home a free bumper crochet hamper worth £100 from Anchor - filled with supplies and crochet threads. While a second lucky winner will win a year's subscription to Simply Knitting magazine.
If you're not content with sharing a photo of your finished crochet online, why not send it into us here at Crochet Along HQ? We'll send you someone else's flower so you will receive some pretty petals in the post! Before the swap ends and we post back your blooms, we'll photograph everyone's flowers in a DIY Crochet Flower garden.
To join in the Big Flower Swap: crochet one or several flowers from the free pattern, and post them (along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope) to: Crochet Along, The Making Spot, Future Publishing, Bath BA1 2BW, England.
How late can I join in?
The Crochet Along is open from Monday 20th August to Friday 12th October - so you've got weeks to join in the fun. We'll make sure all swap return flowers are in the post before 17th October 2012.
I don't live in the UK - does that matter?
No you can join in from anywhere in the world! We want crocheters across the globe to join in from all countries - just follow the instructions above and join in as usual. If you're in the US, simply swap the yarn (in the UK we've used Anchor Aida but this pattern could also be worked in Freccia). You can also find some handy UK/US conversion charts over at: www.themakingspot.com/yarn-conversions.
