When I realised not one but two of my nephews are celebrating birthdays this week, I knew I'd get the chance to have some fun making them cards. All my nephews are mad about computer gaming - especially Mario - and I'm a bit of a fan of 'geek craft' ideas - so I did a bit of online scouring for Nintdo craft ideas, and came up with the below. First up - here's Yoshi in cross stitch... read on to find out where to get the free chart - and how to make a paper Mario! Read more...
This Yoshi chart only took me about an hour and a half to stitch - the beauty of computer games is their pixels make for a perfect translation into cross stitches! To stitch Yoshi, I found a free cross stitch pattern download from Makibird-Stitching on Deviant Art. Next up I had to think of another Mario-themed card - and I remembered the AMAZING Cubee Craft have all sorts of 3D paper toy templates... so I found this Mario template - he's free to download, you just have to cut him out and stick together! He is a little bit fiddly in places, but a bit of perseverance, a craft knife and some double-sided tape did the trick in the end. I mounted him on to a card front to finish.
I hope Lucas and Harry (my nephews) enjoy their cards - I really had fun making them!
