Happy Apple Day!

Today is National Apple Day here in the UK so what better time to share a veritable windfall of our favourite apple crafty projects. And why the devil not.

What crafts tickle your fancy? Perhaps you're a stitcher. If so then your might like this little taste of apply goodness in a project from our very own Cross Stitch Collection mag. You can download the pattern from our brand new website The Making Spot so we reckon this could be a good opportunity!

Put a hat on it!

If you're a regular visitor to The Making Spot blog and our Facebook page you will know we have been supporting Innocent’s, The Big Knit campaign in aid of Age UK. There are still two weeks to get entries in so you still have plenty of time to pick up those needle and get clicking.  To give you some more inspiration we’re delighted to share with you some cool fruit and veg patterns created by The Knitter’s very own Juliet Bernard. Juliet has come up with a whole series of designs for The Big Knit and you can see them all over at Ravelryright now. Here we've featued: The Pear, The Pumpkin & The Apple.

Don’t forget when you are done to show us your handy work on The Making Spot Facebook page! Did you buy any Innocent smoothies last year? Well, if you have the hats still why not send them back to Innocent. We love a bit of upcycling.

DIY digital: felt laptop cases

I've long hoarded a stash of felt in rainbow colours - it seems to come in handy for all my craft projects, but lately it seems a felt frenzy is hotting up. I've just found these amazing felt gadget cases from Daneille London on Etsy.

My week in stitches

After last week's discovery of free charts of mini motifs, I've been stitching up an array of lollipops, cupcakes and juicy fruits this week.

Trend spotting: juicy fruit

From perfect pears to cheeky cherries, this is one trend that's set to remain big news for crafters in 2011.
