Mostly making: big blanket fix!

Crochet fun!

Don't you just love it when you discover handmade treats in unexpected places? For months I walked past this crochet blanket in a beautiful messy pile of crochet in the hallway of my shared flat. The pile belonged to my friend & neighbour Amy - who has a flair for picking up broken old objects from charity shops, flea markets and car boot sales, then fixing them up into high-end shabby chic furniture to sell on. So I asked her if the blankets were for sale and she very generously gave me this one as a gift! Before I can properly get it installed in our house to snuggle under, it needs a bit of TLC as it's had a tough time over the years - so my current project is a crochet restoration effort...

Mostly making: Nintendo craft!

When I realised not one but two of my nephews are celebrating birthdays this week, I knew I'd get the chance to have some fun making them cards. All my nephews are mad about computer gaming - especially Mario - and I'm a bit of a fan of 'geek craft' ideas - so I did a bit of online scouring for Nintdo craft ideas, and came up with the below. First up - here's Yoshi in cross stitch... read on to find out where to get the free chart - and how to make a paper Mario! Read more...

Mostly making: Bayeux tapestry sampler

I love embroidery! It's so relaxing, and I enjoying seeing how the experience and personality of the stitcher comes out in the finished designs - I think the tentative, wobbly first stitches of the beginner look just as charming as the perfect, neat stitches of the lifelong expert.

When I found this Bayeux tapestry crewel picture on The Making Spot, I was so excited and just had to download the project. Read on to find out how I'm getting started with my own mini Bayeux scene...

Diamond Jubilee in stitches

Diamond jubilee in cross stitch

Check out one of our absolute favourite Jubilee craft projects so far today - this Diamond Jubilee cross stitch sampler was stitched by The Making Spot's Laura. She's been stitching her socks off to get this chart (by Nia Cross Stitch) finished in time for today's party - and we're so pleased she did! Isn't it cool? Read on to find out how she got on...

Flags ahoy! Cross stitch on waste canvas

Join in our Jubilee Street PartyThis week Jenny & I have been busy bees getting ready for this Saturday's Jubilee Street Party - a full day of free craft projects here on the blog. We have it on good authority that party-goers to our virtual event are offering all sorts of lovely freebies - including free knitting patterns, embroidery patterns & papercraft downloads!

Here's a sneak peak of one of the projects we'll be featuring... these sweet heart flags are part of a stitch a street party download from over on our main site - as seen in the May issue of Cross Stitcher magazine. My friend Holly kindly helped me stitch these up while I was making cupcake cases for a free tutorial (watch this space)! Read on to to find out how we got on with our first attempt at stitching on waste canvas!

New york wedding card

New York card making idea

I have a confession to make - recently my card making kit has fallen into a slight state of neglect. Usually most weekends see me whipping up some form of card for a family birthday or friend's new baby - but in recent months my fingers have been busy stitching and I've let my beloved (and extensive!) papercraft stash gather dust slightly. So I decided to get back in the saddle to celebrate my friends' Sarah & Dave's wedding last weekend. Please forgive these shaky iphone pics but I really wanted to share as am pleased with the results! Read more to find out how to make a skyline silhouette card...

Mostly making: Crochet flowers

I've spotted a few cute crocheted brooches and headbands in high street shops lately, so I thought I'd have a go at making my own little flowers to dress up my rainy-day coat.

Star wars cross stitch

Here's a sneak peek at one of my favourite cross stitch projects of this year so far - Star Wars in stitches. I thought it was apt to post up now what with Star Wars fans' celebrating 'May the Fourth' next week!Star wars cross stitch

More embroidery fun: Couching

I've been having lots of fun practising embroidery stitches, especially couching. Couching is simply attaching a thick thread to the surface of a fabric with lots of tiny stitches.
